Hernia Pain @ Stoma sight

I am having pretty severe pain right now and kind of bulging where my stoma use to be. This time is worse then before. My second surgery was March of 2012 and still every know and then I have pain around that area. But today is way worse. Does anyone else have this and if so does it sound like a hernia? Can you let hernia's come and go or what will happen. I have been pretty good so far but today the pain is pretty bad.

Any advise would be great.

You can let hernias go as long as they do not cause problems. But, if you are having significant pain that is constant, you need to call your doctor, now. Hernias can become strangulated and are then a surgical emergency. This is not something you should mess around with. But, if the pain is brief and intermittent, it probably is just adhesions catching the loop of intestine that go into the hernia. It still should be looked at, but it is not an emergency.

I am still sore. But I think I might have had a little blockage. Now I have severe diarrhea. So I am hoping tomorrow is a new and better day. Thanks again Jan

Yes, sounds like it was an obstruction. The stoma site is the most common place for adhesions to cause obstructions. Keep an eye on this and if it is a frequent occurrence, you probably will need the adhesions released. At that point, you may as well get the hernia fixed too.
