I had my takedown 3 1/2 weeks ago, overall doing very well but I am dealing with 1-2 hemorrhoids which I can feel with my finger. It has made going to the bathroom very painful. I am only going 5-6 times a day and somewhat formed. No real butt burn and no urgency. I have been putting Preperation H on it every time I go to the bathroom for the past several days. It started to seem better yesterday and today its all swollen again and hurts. My postop appt is in 3 weeks and surgeons nurse said they will take a look at it then. They said the general rule for hemorrhoids in a pouch patient is to leave them alone... so will I have to live with this the rest of my life now? Anyone shed some light on this or has dealt with them???

I disagree with your nurse!!! I thought I had hemorroids but it became soooo painful the surgeon saw me and it ended up being a fissure and a VERY RAW butt... inside. My frequency was very high and at the time I was using a prescribed ointment containing hydrocortisone and Lidocaine combined. She immediately took me off of that because steroids exacerbate then problem and prevent healing. She switched the ointment to pure Lidocaine and switched me to Lomotil instead of Immodium and told me to eat 3 marshmallows every 4-6 hours to slow down the bowel movements. So far so good although there are those days that I get sore due to high frequency. I would suggest that you call and tell them you are in pain and need to be seen! Good Luck!!!
I have had fissures and they are crazy painful. If you feel bumps internally, I still think it could be hemorrhoids. I could feel a crack in the tissue lining with a fissure. That is after some healing because there was no way I was putting a finger in there with that fissure and no medication-way too painful!! Initially I used a nitroglycerin ointment made with lidocaine which gave me headaches but worked great for the fissure. After a repeat episode years later, I used a nifedipine ointment made with lidocaine and that was also very effective with no headaches-yay!! I am not saying you shouldn't try to move up your appointment b/c who wants pain when pooping?!? I am sure your tolerance is also on the lower end after all you have been through. Best of luck!!
I've head hemorrhoids and they hurt like hell. One thing the nurse did tell me was to clean the area with witch hazel after every BM, and that it's generally a good idea to do this even if you don't have hemorrhoids, as it keeps general irritation down. Witch hazel reduces swelling. That said, when you hemorrhoids are raging, witch hazel can sting or burn. The first few applications can be painful, but it's the long term benefits you are looking for. Calmoseptine helped me as well with the hemorrhoids, as it created a barrier and soothed the area.

What don't you agree with my nurse about? My surgeon is Dr Remzi at Cleveland Clinic who is one of the best. I had to reschedule my original post op apt due to work and first available is 4/21 and that's squezzing me into a tight schedule. She said this morning she is prescribing straight lidocaine and nothing else. She said it could be a small tear(fissure) that's causing the swelling but doesn't want to recommend anything else until she actually looks at it and determines what it is. I am almost certain its a hemorrhoid. I can feel it with my finger, its on the side of the anus and feels like a swollen vein. It hurts after I go for a bit but not horribly. And my stools are somewhat formed and not high frequency.
my external hemorrhoid is better, now I think I have internal. Last night out of nowhere I had a bowl full of blood. scared the crap out of me. first thing this morning, no blood. just went to bathroom a little this afternoon and some blood at end of bowel movement. No real pain but a slight pinching in anal canal which ive had for awhile now. I have a scope set up with Dr Shen next Thursday just to make sure. I have no other symptoms and I feel fine...but scared about this and the bleeding. What can they do for internal hemorrhoids if bleeding becomes chronic?
The only thing I can say is that I had roids too after my reversal (internal and external). I don't recall how long I had them, but they did eventually go away. I was given a prescription for a suppository that worked well, even if it only offered temporary relief (I'm sorry, but I don't recall what it was). I don't think it is something you should expect to deal with the rest of your life - probably just another one of those bumps in the road - so to speak.
When I replied that I disagree with your nurse ... It has nothing to do with your doctor. My surgeons nurse has given me incorrect advice a handful of times. My surgeon is known all over and she is a doctors' doctor at The Hospital of univerIty of Pennsylvania. But her nurse has been wrong. My surgeon said not to use witch hazel because it dries the rectumband exacerbates the rawness. I stopped using the witch hazel ... just Lidocaine and almost immediately it felt better. That worked for me ... but everyone is different. Sorry if I offended you. I was just offering what worked for me. Feel better!!!
