How can you tell if it's a hemorrhoid or a small prolapse? Burning, discomfort, incomplete emptying. Also, I have an RV fistula which has become very active since this started a couple of weeks ago. I've just begun a cortisone type hemorrhoid suppository but too early for improvement. Thoughts?

I would honestly seek a gastro's opinion, that way he can tell you exactly what it is and give you the best treatment possible. And definitely do not be afraid of second opinions if you have to get one.
The test that’s usually done to diagnose a prolapse is called defecography, which your doctor can order if it seems necessary. The incomplete emptying is more often associated with prolapse than hemorrhoids. Are you actually feeling something protruding from your anus?
Thanks for the replies. I do see 'something' protruding. I had a mucosal prolapse a few years ago. It was initially said to be a hemorrhoid but later a prolapse. I found it very difficult to manage but no action was taken as I was getting a temporary ileostomy. It was no longer an issue after returning to the j pouch function.
I'm so hoping this is hemorroid.

I hope so, too. Do you have an appointment scheduled yet?
It hard to know - but I hope you have a hemorrhoid also - I think you need to get it evaluated fast - before it causes a bigger problem. Does it feel like the first prolapse?
It does feel like the 1st prolapse. I have a phone appointment next week.

I would strongly recommend you push to go to the office and have the doctor physically see it if possible. Its way better to see stuff in person rather than video/phone chat
