My j-pouch is almost 16 years old, and my fistula has been around the last 7 years. This surgery was long overdue, but it was also a very emotional decision as I was used to dealing with the fistula and my fear of surgery was that things may be worse.

I had surgery 2 days ago.  The surgery was done vaginally, and I was told to resume my normal diet since my stool is always loose.  I am just not supposed to strain so as not to create an issue with the stitches.  I typically eat a lot of vegies which can create a pretty explosive situation, so I decided to start off with low residue foods. I am drinking a lot of water and eating smaller meals. I am eliminating smaller amounts and not really emptying my pouch as I won't risk straining, but I'm keeping a lot of air in my stomach. The only good thing about the fistula is that gas would dissipate through the vagina. I'm belching to relieve the pressure but there is still minor cramping at times. Of course, this gives me worry and I would like to know what others ate after fistula repair surgery. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
