Hawker,
I cannot tell you if what you are experiencing is normal, but according to my surgeon and the associated interns etc it isn't. I had my reversal on 15/10 and went home 17/10. Some pain for a few days around where the stoma incision was sewn up, but apart from that relatively pain free. Now 2 weeks and two days after the surgery there is no pain at all and hasn't been for the last 10-12 days or so.
I use metamucil 3 times a day and the stools are relatively formed. Metamucil is your friend (although some people do not tolerate it well). The butt burn is minimal since the semi formed stool (because of the metamucil) goes right on out. There is some leakage mainly in the evening (minor) and I get up 3-5 times a night. All in all, I'm well pleased with the outcome so far.
As far as surgeons go, I asked my gastro guy who the best in the ACT/NSW was and he said unreservedly Prof Michael Solomon (Sydney Uni/RPAH) so he did both surgeries.
Given you are only 3 days out, and you are on a 'fluid diet' watery stools are the norm. The other symptoms, I'd suggest are not. The upper stomach pain is, I think, atypical. Loss of apatite after surgery is normal although I didn't really lose my apatite after the takedown surgery.
I don't know if that helps, but if I had your symptoms, ie. the pain, I would have it investigated ASAP.
