How’s everyone holding up in this extreme heat? I’m having a terrible time. This year has been the worst for me. No matter how much I drink I always feel dehydrated. I can feel the heat sucking it out of me.

Right now I am back in south Florida and it’s crazy hot. I have to drink btw 1-2 quarts of Gatorade a day to stay hydrated or else!
thankfully I have not had an dehydration incident in a year, but this heat is dangerous.
I hate our weather..philly is terrible but it could be worse. Thankfully im.not in Texas.
Yes on having issues with hydration. Coming up 22 years with my j October 15th this year
I take 2 16.9 pz bottles on my 2 to 4 mile walk each morning in our weather. Those are both consumed through the duration and when I get in my apt I jug 1/2 a gal of a 1 gal jug
Surprised I only got one kidney stone 8mm and not a dozen from diarrhea dehydration and the system not processing nuts correctly therefore making susectsble to calcium oxalate stones.
I truly hate heat and humidity. I'm diabetic type 2 on tradjenta so I control my bs through these walks even though I gained 15 lbs recently from binge eating /stress
I feel for everyone in the hot zoned city and states
Extreme cold sucks but this is crap the heat. Shower before bed only to need another one after a walk first thing in am

Yes, I'm definitely glad you're not here in Texas in this heat! Wouldn't wish that on anyone!
As far as heat management, I try to do every outdoor activity in the morning that isn't water-oriented. I'm ingesting lots of water and electrolytes. Submersion in water outdoors is great when the sun isn't strong, so morning or evening. Using fans. Showers. Cold water bidet is lovely at this time of year. Keeping the AC at 80-82 in the daytime and 70-80 at night and using a fan. This way the heat isn't so shocking when we do go out, and we're not hogging up all the electricity and increasing climate change by as much, though we still suck for using any electricity or gas at all. I guess we, as a species, are reaping what we sowed.
On the brighter side, the spiders and the wasps seem to be doing fine. And where I live still has trees so there is a bit of shade here and there.
109 here in N. Texas
Reverse cabin fever.
:-)
Stock up on the Gatorlyte! The dog days of summer are upon us and we are getting dogged, even here in the US Northeast!
109. Same as yesterday. And probably tomorrow.
C'mon November!

Intense heat across southwestern USA is discussed in this BBC article:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-66195721
It's going to be 117 degrees Fahrenheit in Las Vegas Sunday, which will tie its all time record set in 1942 and again 2021.
Make sure your air conditioning units are serviced and ready to go and keep going! Can't have the AC skip out on you now.
Too bad there is nobody to save us from our own stupidity. Or is it depression? Either way, ignoring the problem won't make it go away, including cranking/maintaining the AC.
On my way to work this morning I was listening to the Sirius Radio 70s station and this song came on. It seems like the Sirius DJs are aware of current events, and this seems like a good theme song for this thread. Classic Linda Ronstadt circa 1975:

I agree.

What problem/stupidity are you referring to?

Well, like my momma used to say, "If you don't know, I can't tell you."
We as a generation have contributed greatly to any environmental problems that are still happening
It has gone past the tipping point of correction. At least in my mind and as an opinion. It's warming and drying up. We. Me too. Have contributed to the problem.
We will become extinct. And we did it to ourselves ruining a really delicate planet. It all rolls downhill.
That's the problem / stupidity I think she is referring to.
And it's too late. Other countries are just not doing anything about it. Making it worse.
Slow death.
Eh it cooled from 109 here to 107 here. If that helps.
;-)
And yes. I will turn my a/c on. Continue what everyone else is doing. Not gonna sit in a house that's over 100 degrees. Now that's stupid.
I'm probably gonna regret posting this. But the mods can take it down. It's not intended to insult anyone.

Yes, we have all contributed, us resource hogging Americans are some of the worst but I’m not advocating that we citizens should put our health at risk. I’m just annoyed that we don’t have systems in place to make taking care of our environment easy for everyone. We are dying and politicians are talking about stupid stuff. Who cares? We’re dying y’all! We with precarious health will be going first so it really is a j-pouch issue.
I don't think ostomy / pouch people will go first.
So many people are in more dire situations than we are.
Maybe so.
Back on topic, how’s everyone holding up with this heat, dehydration, IV fluids?
Personally. I drink alot... Alot. And stay out of direct sunlight if I do go out. Sun is just too intense. Try to stay in the shade.
But water is the most important thing I do. Even if I'm not thirsty I drink. And just water. I'm not a Gatorade person. Or flavored drink. Other than that I try to stay inside until late evening.
It's a definitely be cautious outside.
R.
I drink a lot of water too. I keep a bottle of water on my nightstand and drink whenever I get up at night to avoid being dehydrated or semi-dehydrated in the morning. For those of us who get infusions, it's particularly important to be hydrated on infusion day, otherwise you are going to be a pin cushion.
However if I go outside I up the hydration game a notch with Gatorlyte Zero. I think Gatorlyte Zero is a particularly good electrolyte beverage suitable for sustaining reasonable outdoor activities in hot weather. Tomorrow I have to trim some overgrown azaleas in my landscaped area and I will certainly have a bottle of Gatorlyte on hand while doing that work.
I also keep my fingers crossed on the AC. I have a large outdoor unit that controls my Central AC in my condo. Around 4 years ago it went in the middle of a heat wave midsummer just like we are experiencing right now. It was like 85 degrees in my condo. It sucked because I sleep in a 70 degree condo at night, or I don't sleep at all.
Anyway I have an HVAC guy I know from his work for one of my past coworkers. He is something of an HVAC genius. A mad professor looking kind of guy. When my AC went out 4 years ago I had to wait on him for a few days because his wife had a medical emergency and he had to be with her at the hospital. Once his wife was stabilized and discharged, he finally came out after I suffered for a night or two. He went into my unit and quickly told me I had a blown capacitor. He then went out to his van, came back and said "you're in luck- I had a spare capacitor in my truck." He replaced the capacitor, charged me up with Freon and was done and the AC unit was fixed in approximately 15 minutes. He charged me $100, which I gladly paid, as I was just stupefied by his wizardry working on my AC unit. Watching him in action was like going to a Billy Joel or Elton John concert and listening to those guys play a piano.

Sorry to divert the topic yesterday (and thanks, Mysticobra, for commiserating). I was in an extremely foul mood and more irritated than usual by humanity. I'm glad people are finding ways to stay cool and healthy. Love to you all, pouch fam!

It's the heat.
Lol.

Ha ha ha ha! Love it.
I thought I was drinking enough (4 to 5 liters a day), I just had a Ct scan and found a 13mm kidney stone…I guess i need to drink more?? How much are you guys drinking??
From what I have heard, there are dietary measures a person can take in addition to increased water intake to avoid kidney stones, but I'm not sure what those are. I have heard beets need to be avoided, but beets have blood building properties and I'm highly deficient in this area. So...? Are pouch people more prone to kidney stones? I have heard a lot about them on this forum lately.
Dietary measures depend on exactly what kind of stones your body tends to form. The amount of fluid you need varies a *lot*. A roofer in Texas needs much more than an office worker. You can tell you’re getting enough fluid if your urine is light-colored and you need to pee at least 3-4 times per day.

Are you referring to heat issues & dehydration?

I was told to drink 3L a day, it’s very hard, usually get about 2 in. But this heat seems to be sucking it so fast out of me
@ytcrockpot posted:Are you referring to heat issues & dehydration?
I was asking more than anything, referring to the comment about kidney stones & hydration.
Has anyone suffered from heat exhaustion this summer? I had it a few years back, very scary. I was in the NYC subway station and passed out.
Diarrhea, dehydration & heat not a good mix for us J-pouchers!
I drink anywhere from 60 to 80 ounces a day. That does not include coffee or a soft drink I may have. I don't think they count. Lol.
But I'm not working. When I was working I know I drank at least two gallons. A day! Most at work. I'd down a 20oz bottle at once and go get more. I don't need as much now.
And Scott. My urine is clear. That is the best indicator. I totally agree with that as a benchmark.
Just wondering how many people drink room temperature water as I do? Or cold water? I can't drink cold water. Seems I can drink more if it's room temperature.
I'm a room temp water drinker. Cold water usually feels bad to ingest.
Humidity is a killer, must find a cooler place for next summer, maybe Alaska or Australia lol
