I had a sigmoidoscope yesterday and it was confirmed that I have a fixed 5mm stricture (1/4 inch) at the anastomosis, which is the outlet of the pouch. The G.I. couldn't get the smallest scope through the stricture so now I am having a bowel ultrasound to determine if there is inflammation in the pouch and small intestine and then a surgical consult. I'm sure, at age 50, I will need to consider removal of the j-pouch but the G.I. is sending me for a surgical consult to discuss all the options including pouch revision. It will be a long time before I see the surgeon as my ultrasound is scheduled for Nov 8 (earliest available during covid - ugh).
Has anyone here had successful surgery to repair a stricture of this severity? If so, did it provide you with a better quality of life or only minimal benefits? I'd like to hear your experiences.
