I am due to have my gallbladder removed soon, and I am anxious as i have adhesions in pelvic region and J Pouch. If you had surgery, was it Keyhole or General surgery? Also what was recovery like, how successful was your surgery? and what are your symptoms now.? Thanking you all in anticipation and all comments appreciated, as I am anxious about the procedure.

I had mine removed a few years ago. Started out as keyhole but ended up general due to too much scar tissue in the way. The one thing you will probably want to do is see about getting a prescription for Cholestyramine powder (not pills but raw powder). Mix this with something like aquaphor like 20% powder to 80% aquaphor. Then put this on your buttocks. For some reason since the bile excretion is no longer regulated (the job of the gallbladder), the skin on your buttocks can get pretty irritated and the cholestyramine can help neutralize that. From what my doc said in most patients the colon neutralizes the constant bile stuff but jpouch not as well. Other than that there were no other symptoms.
Dear Voivod, Thank you very much for your reply it means a lot. I will research about mixture, due to bile content. Does it affect you every day?? The soreness. Also have you put on weight, since operation, as I have lost a lot of weight.. I do appreciate your comments. Thanking you for your kind support. Lorraine.
Hi Lorraine,
Just saw your post. I had my gallbladder removed last week on the 9th. It was laparoscopic. I had some pretty good sized stones I guess. I think we all have scar tissue to contend with, and I also have a stricture. I'm a bit sore of course, but really am feeling pretty good. Sugar seems to be my only problem. It seems to cause gas, which isn't good. I think if you just don't eat alot at one setting and walk of course, you should be alright. No lifting, only up to ten pounds! That's hard. Lol Anyway, I have no regrets having the surgery and no big adverse effects from it as of yet. Good luck to you. Hope yours comes out as well as mine has.

Hi Aimee, Thank you for your reply.. it is reassuring to know all went well with you. Do you have more soreness in back passage, as a result of the bile ? please let me know and i wish you a speedy recovery. Best regards, lorraine.
Hi Lorraine,
I do not have any soreness in the back passage since surgery. Hoping that isn't going to be a problem for me. Lol
Thanks for good wishes.
Aimee

Hi! I had my colon removed over 30 years ago and have a j-pouch. My surgeon removed my gallbladder at the time of my j-pouch surgery due to it not being a necessary organ and to prevent any problems with it in the future. I was lucky to have Dr Victor Fazio who was the Chair of the Colo Rectal department at CC. He was brilliant and world renowned, yet he was so kind and welcomed any questions I had!
In the past 8 years I have suffered with vaginal rectal fistulas and had 2 different surgeries to attempt to repair the fistula that is a very difficult task. They both failed.
I found Dr Ian Paquette at University of Cincinnati, chair of the Colo-Rectal at UC. He is very accomplished in various Colo Rectal surgeries. I reached out to him and he made time to see me immediately! He is very skilled and dedicated to helping cure Colo-Rectal diseases! He was so thorough with various techniques like giving me general anesthesia so he could fully examine my J pouch and the fistula. He also did an MRI and CT scan so he had the full picture. He is brilliant, very much like Victor Fabio!!
Due to the location of the fistula. He referred me to yet another brilliant surgeon, a Urogynocologist named Dr Mickey Karram who is familiar with fistulas in the area that mine was. Dr Karram was an incredible surgeon! He had confidence he would be able to fix my fistula. And that he did!!
so if there are any patients that have been suffering with a vaginal fistula and have had many attempts to have it repaired, please reach out to Dr Karram!! He totally repaired mine and I am forever grateful for Dr Paquette and Dr Karram!!
Hi Betsy, Just saw message and thank you for replying it is appreciated. I hope you are in much better health and comfort now. All the best, kind regards, lorraine Howell.
Hello Lorraine, Not sure if you had your surgery yet. Best wishes if not. I had my gall bladder removed around 5-6 weeks ago laparoscopically because of a fast growing polyp. As Aimc said, BE CAREFUL about lifting and movement. I really wish I paid more attention to instructions, for some reason I thought I would recover faster. I went to my aquafit classes too soon and the larger incision opened up a bit due to the vigorous exercise. I thought I would love to lay on the couch and watch movies while I healed but when that time came I was restless and couldn't stay still. Please try to give your body some time. Anyway I have no adverse effects either and never had back end soreness. I use baby wipes anyway. Glad it is out to prevent future issues. Seeing the surgeon in two days for follow up so I do have questions. He talked to me after right surgery but I have no memory of it .
Dear Dutchie, Thank you so much for reassuring message it means a lot. I hope YOU are taking it easy, and not doing as much. Later will be greater!!! Best regards for speedy recovery.. lorraine
