I here so many having problems with their pouch. I still have my loop ileostomy and have had pouchitis twice. I've only had the pouch since April. I'm afraid of what's going to happen once I get connected. Does this mean I will continue to get pouchitis once I'm reconnected to my j pouch?

It's probably diversion pouchitis (inflammation caused by the diversion itself). This is common and could/should resolve once intestinal continuity is restored.
I too have a loop & this is at least my second, possibly third bout of pouchitis. I have the same fear as you. Did you get reattatched yet? How is it going?
I read here oil of oregano is a natural pouchitis preventative if taken correctly. I am going to give it a try. Please let me know what happened with you!!!

I had my reconnect sept 23. I still have pouchitis. Been on cipro continuously until it stopped working. Now trying flaygl. I have to see a GI dr to have a scope done. I'm sick of having pouchitist and I don't want to go back to the bag. I don't know what to do. I'm on loperamide four times a day to help with the diarrhea.
Wondering if there is a cure for the pouchitst.

Halo, have you tried fiber (Metamucil, Citrucel)?
halo..perhaps like some others of us you may be someone who has chronic pouchitis(usually that means pouchitis more than 4 times in a year)..it does not mean you have to go back to bag but it could mean you will have to constantly manage it..by that i mean antibiotics on an on going basis..some of us rotate antibiotics two, three or even four..when i started years ago i could rotate every month now i rotate every two weeks my antibiotics..
if you find your present antibiotic helping you will probably only be able to stay on it as long as your body takes to build up resistance ..so you can do that and cycle back to another one or you can rotate them as i do every two three or 4 weeks..trying to keep consistency with pouchitis symptoms under control..

Have you been tested for C. diff? I'd be suspicious at this point, after all that Cipro.

I had diversion pouchitis with the loop ostomy. I also had it after takedown and was on and off antibiotics for a long time. I still need antibiotics, but I can go much longer periods of time off them and now tend to go on for a week followed by 2/3 weeks off. It's not the ultimate situation but my GI has no issue with this approach. It could possibly take you a bit longer to be able to stop the antibiotics and a c diff test is probably a food idea as well as probiotics while on antibiotics.

They tested me for c-diff in the hospital.
The cipro stopped working and the flaygl didn't seem to help. So I quit taking it for a few days. I started to have signs of c-diff and went back on the flaygl. Now it seems to be working. I am having close to normal stools. I think before I was eating to much sugary items. So now I am trying to eat better, but not easy with th holidays here.
I have an appt dec 2 with a GI to do a scope. I'm nervous about that one.
