Hi there.  It's been 6 yrs now with a permanent ileostomy after jpouch removal, and have been doing really well.  However, now I'm scheduled for thumb surgery (CMC joint arthroplasty) due to Level IV arthritis, in both thumbs.  Starting off with my non-dominant hand.  Wondering if anyone possibly has had surgery where your thumb/hand was in a cast/splinted/unusable for 6 weeks, minimum?  If so, any tips for emptying/changing, etc., with one hand?  I've been "practicing" with one hand but man oh man, it seems really difficult/impossible!  My husband will do whatever is needed to help, but that help can only go so far, I'm thinking.

And while I'm asking, anyone have advice on pain meds with an ileostomy?  I always try to avoid all pain meds, but sounds like this surgery will require something.  I hope you're all doing well!
