hair removal before ileostomy?

I made plans to have localized laser hair removal when I though I would have an ostomy. It turned out that I never had an ostomy, though. Laser hair removal only works on pigmented hair, I believe. Once it goes gray it's too late. Coordinating the location accurately with the surgeon far enough in advance could require better-than-average communication.

So, I think it's not grey down there yet! But my thought is if I removed a good bit of hair to the right of my belly button I'd have a good swatch. I'll mention it to the surgeon tomorrow. He may think I'm crazy!

The problem is that you need multiple sessions of laser treatment to achieve semi-permanent/complete hair removal, and treatments are given at ~6 week intervals. So if your surgery is anytime in the near future it's too late.

Also, the skin is quite sensitive and irritated for a few days or maybe a few weeks after the treatment, so I'm sure no surgeon would want to operate/create an ileo on skin that has recently had a laser treatment.

There is a new Pulsed Light system for hair removal that does not use laser, no pain, no irritation and it can be used at any time on dark to dark blond hair. It is used every other week and that way the lag time is shorter...you need about 6 sessions or 12 weeks to get it done but you can buy the machine yourself and use it at home (I do)...
I use it on the normal girl parts plus around my stoma to avoid the associated problems.
Not sure where you can buy it in the U.S. but you could look it up on the net...there are 5 or six nationally recognised brands for the product.
No reccomendations on my part but buy the one that suits you needs best

I would suggest you get your ostomy site marked by a WOCN before you go about shaving, getting rid of hair. You need to make sure you are getting the right area. You should be marked prior to surgery anyway.
