Yes, it grows back, but will take months. My hair was coming out in handfuls, receding hairline and super thin before it quit. Then it grew back and I had a combination of long stringy hair and a crew cut! Very attractive...

The hair that didn't fall out had a band of dull, mousy color from my very sick year.

Oh winter wish I know how discouraging the hair loss can be. I lost handfuls of hair while tapering off prednisone and for a good 6 months after. It was so upsetting to see so much hair in my hands when toweling my head, and in my comb, brush and sink. I thought it would never stop but the good news is that it does. And, in my experience, it grows back completely but as Jan said it takes a long time. Be patient and your beautiful hair will grow back strong and shiny and you will feel so much better. My hair actually came back thicker than before but that was probably because I was turning grey anyway and the new hairs came back silver.

Is this pretty common?...I haven't been on Prednisone since I was 14 and am finishing up a 6 week taper. My hair is the one nice thing I have going for me right now! Certainly hope it doesn't start falling out :-(

I am certain it is not just the prednisone taper, but also the amount of time you were so sick that you needed the prednisone!

I have not had any issues with hair loss with short term use or low dose.

My hair started to thin and fall out while on prednisone...even while tapering off of it. Eventually it did return to it's original state though.
