Had j pouch 1 week....holy itching!

Oh my heart goes out for you. I know how uncomfortable this is as I had a VERY bad case of the itches and burns for quite awhile after takedown. My doctor prescribed nystatin(a powder), which helped a little bit.
I took numerous baths as that was one of the only things that really helped. If you can get her to do this couple of times a day or get a sitz bowl you put over the toilet and let her sit in that several times a day it should help somewhat. I am not sure what other medicines she can try. Unfortunately, this adjustment takes tons of patience for some of us. Keep telling her it will improve. You can try vaseline or A and D ointment also, but often the itching is internal at the very end of the anal canal.

If Analpram is a numbing creme, it will help alot...burns going on, but then it numbs...sitting in a warm tub helps too.

I just wanted to say I am sorry that your 12 years old has to go through this. I second advise by Jeane and Cataja. It's not easy to do sitz bath only a week pass takedown since you're running to toilet so much, but sitz bath really helps. I hope Analpram helps to get quick relief.

I tried all of the above, with no luck. Preparation H wipes are the only thing that worked for me! Use them to this day, Has to be name brand.

Thank you. I think she's figured out that eating causes diarrhea to worsen so she's not eating. She did the same with UC....she didn't hurt if she didn't eat. She's been sitting on a firm chair with a cold wash rag under her bottom. It's fine until she stands up. What's a sitz bowl? We've been told no baths for at least two weeks, so this sounds like an option. Using wipes. What is A& D cream? Picked up Analpram tonight...she's asleep so will try in the morning. You can purchase the small tub like thing at a drugstore to put over the toilet to put warm water in to sit in. Ask them there for it to do sitz baths in. You can also by Epson salts to put in water if doc says ok. A and d ointment is a baby diaper rash ointment you can also get at the drugstore. Hopefully the cream the doctor ordered may help but honestly the warm baths helped more than anything at this time. I am sorry she is not eating. Sometimes this can make things worse with the acids that the bottom area needs to adjust to so if you can get something in her that is easy on the digestive system it would probably be better.

I have found that a bedet has been my best investment, they are easy to install you can get it with direr rent water temperatures which is soothing and warm air to dry, also I don't use toilet paper always wipes similar to baby wipes, I alway carry them in a small,purse with any creams that I using at the time.our stools are so acidic and tend to burn so find that the moisture in the wipes helpful. All the best for your daughter give her lots of hugs and love lets know how she progresses.

I participated in a study after my J pouch was constructed at Mayo Clinic in 1983. Part of the study where pouch function was evaluated caused considerable burning and the doctor used 2% Lidocaine oral jel (yes,you can use it on the other end). My PCP prescribed it for use in reducing anal irritation and it helped significantly. I also installed a bidet, which cleans the area well and worked better than lidocaine.

Okay, seeing improvement! It's very hard to stay on a decent low residue diet while living in a hotel! We are not able to travel home until the 9th, so hotel living it is! I think the food I gave her on Monday was not a good choice....the canned raviolis burned coming out. Also a grilled sourdough sandwich. Got the Calmaseptine and it worked well enough she could walk around a bunch today. Since we are in California rather than our home in Montana, this is very fun! I also picked up the Analpram also and she tried it once today. She likes how it numbs the inside itching. Today she ate hash browns, white toast and eggs then shrimp dumplings with fried rice. only pooped 6 times so far today. I'm sure things will get bad again but we are loving this good day!

When I travel I try to stay somewhere with a refrigerator - Residence Inns are a good choice, and there are others. You can actually set up a reasonable food situation in these places, particularly if you have time available, as long as you can relax about some food being discarded at the end of your stay.

It will get better but I remember how terrible those first weeks were. She is doing very well if she is only having 6 poops a day. I have used so many ointments for pain and itching and I do very well with Calmoseptine for healing, itching and cooling. It must be so difficult to see your child in this situation. I wish you both the best during these difficult days and yes, she probably will take a step backwards but feel assured she will take two forward.

I use dubicaine and 40% zinc oxide. I get it in the baby department. The cheapest place for me so far is at Target. They have there brand of zinc oxide. The dubicaine I ordered it through drugstore.com. I have also got it a cvs in there brand. But it cost more. I put the dubicaine on my rubber glove finger first and then add zinc. I also love my heating pad cause I got sick of being in the tub. Also highly recommend a Bidget. I got just a cheap one with cold water and I love it. I would never be without it. I also take a bag that has all my supplies for when I am out. I love the soap that requires no rinsing.

I too am very sorry to hear that your daughter is going through this, and as a mom it must be so difficult to watch her suffer.
I continue to have problems with itching, burning etc...I have also tried AD ointment, Desitin, and recently bought Tuck's Medicated Spray (hemhorroid spray) it does burn when initially sprayed, but has provided a lot of relief.
Also, when I was pregnant, during my exam my OBGYN noticed how red and sore my bottom was, and suggested I try Crisco...It was strange keeping a can or crisco in my bathroom, but it worked great!! I try to rotate my products just so I don't get too used to one thing-
