So, everyone suggests not eating after 7 pm to avoid nighttime trips to the loo...

Who are you people that you can manage to eat dinner before 7? I'm lucky if I leave work before 6:30 and walk into the house by 7...

How on earth does anyone manage to get dinner in before 7 on a regular basis if you're living and working a normal American life?

I agree. A better and healthier alternative is to eat a snack, like a banana, and take one anti-spasmodic and one imodium at bedtime. Starving oneself after an arbitrary time (like 6 or 7 pm) may also have a deleterious impact on one's sleep patterns.

I have read numerous posts on this board reporting problems that could be solved with anti-spasmodics. The communication level between doctors and patients on these issues does not seem to be tremendous. When I had these issues for a year or two after takedown, my surgeon immediately identified the problem and prescribed the treatment which resolved it.

Dosages of meds and snack foods you can eat at bedtime are all trial and error. If you don't do the trials, you won't know what the errors are, and what the $100,000 verdicts are.

Last, I think some people are looking for perfect results that are not always going to happen even with a successful J Pouch. Sometimes I don't get up at night to go to the bathroom and sometimes I do. Starving oneself in order to avoid getting up one or two times to use the bathroom at night IMHO is not worth the trouble when there are other ways to resolve the issue.

agree with ct i have found no difference in when i had last meal or snack..for me with antibiotic dependent pouchitis if my antibiotics are working very well it just does not matter.. however, for me a very good night will mean getting up once or twice..never had not getting up..but if my pouch is not doing well its longer times in bathroom which means longer times up at night..if working well its pretty quick..

I tend to eat at around 8 pm with hubby most nights and after 9pm when I work late.
It is a disaster for my sleep cycle and pouch because it gets very active about 3hrs after eating...if I go to bed at a decent hour then I get woken up in the middle of my sleep cycle...more than once. Kills me.
So I try to only have a puréed veggie and a yoghurt or dixie cup or a piece of fruit when I get in late...or nothing at all other than a hot drink. The emptier the pouch the better I sleep...But I have a k pouch.
