I have not been on meds at all since whatever postoperative meds I might have had and I do have a ano-vaginal fistula that formed within 8 years of my surgery. Never operated on because of location and I just realized I haven't even noticed it for years. Sounds pretty good eh, and it has been pretty satisfactory except for the bathroom thing and the inability to gain weight.
So skipping all the how I finally came to get off gluten story, I have now been eating gluten-free for about three weeks. The first day I only used the bathroom 3 times. That's my normal/average cut in half. If I stay away from other known bloat-causing foods like milk (cheese is ok) and soy (I live in Japan) and the sort of fibrous veggies that no one can digest, it is now quite possible for me to poop only 2x a day.
Yes, that's right folks. I consider it a miracle. I didn't even have the classic signs of celiac or gluten sensitivity and didn't bother getting tested. I've been mulling over trying this for years and just didn't think it would be worth it. But it's not bad at all. I found from the beginning that I wasn't craving snacks all the time like I used to. I eat three meals and maybe a snack. I no longer NEED something to eat between dinner and bedtime.
So I think I'm going to continue. If I revert back to my old poop-filled days despite the diet change, I'll come back and fess up. Otherwise, off to live my new life. I haven't lost any weight yet and have hopes of gaining.
For anyone fence-sitting....worth a try
