Getting cuff checked

Hi, when you get your rectal cuff checked do you go under, twilight or just suck it up and get checked without any anestesia? I have usually done it without going under but my new doc says he normally does it that way...it only takes a minute or so to check but it is quite painful but im guessing even with my insurance it probably costs alot to do it...
