Saw my surgeon yesterday. He wants to try a mucosectomy first before removing my j-pouch. Said there is a 20% that is will help. He did not sound all that convince that it will work. I have suffered from cuffitis, IPS, pouchitis, joint pain and high frequency for 10 years. I went there expecting a pouch removal date and came home with another option. It is worth a shot. This way if I need to get it removed, I know that I really did all I could. I will not wonder. He said that although the procedure is not a big deal, the recovery is very painful. Can anyone that has had one give me some details tips etc. I am waiting for his nurse to call to schedule it. It will be in the next two to three weeks. Yikes!!!

I believe that DTMack had one, yes with a painful recovery, and it solved his problems. Good luck!
I have no insight on this but I just wanted to wish you luck. Hope it solves the problem.

Thanks guys. I guess I should have asked the surgeon a lot more questions about the procedure. I appreciate your taking the time to respond. My surgery date is July 10. Wish me luck! Maybe this will do the trick!
Hi Maximaus,

Yes it is a painful surgery and recovery but it has caused zero problems for me.

Thanks Derek, I sent you a PM.
I had a mucosctomy 11 years ago today for all the same reasons. I still suffer on and off with pouchitis but it's been controlled with various meds. Good luck with your surgery. I too was expecting pouch removal but Gave it a shot as well.
Good luck on your surgery. It's been a painful 10 years for you and it would be wonderful if you were pain free.
I've been wondering if I am eventually going to need the same surgery for my chronic cuffitis.
Please let us know how you are doing.

does a mucosectomy require a temp ileo? if not why not just load up on pain meds for the pain?
Maximaus - I don't remember if we heard how your surgery went? How are you doing?
