My gastro wrote instructions for my scope in 9 days, flex sig. and included mag citrate one bottle in it following a light dinner around 6 7 pm

also it says saline enemas 30 mins apart, two 90 minutes before procedure arrival time

** I’ve always done tap water warm enamas not saline I dump that in toilet

isn’t the one bottle of msg citrate over kill post mucosectomy ad just two tap water enemas are sufficient?

do I risk uncleanliness if I don’t do the mag citrate or is it to ensure the dinner the night before cleared my system?

thx

Prep instructions vary a lot between doctors, and in your case they’ll probably try to look as far into the ileum as they can. I recently got prep instructions that included a laxative the night before, and I managed to get them modified after several attempts. Unless you happen to have solid stools (unusual for a J-poucher) the laxative is probably overkill. The enemas are very important, though the saline is probably unhelpful for us. But: a good relationship with your GI is also important.

8 cups of water cleans me out entirely in the morning. I put salt in my water though so i dont lose salt. I would do a liquid diet the day before the procedure. I would drink lemonade on the liquid diet so your sugar does not go low. So all in all, drinking all day the day before the procedure might get you cleaned out. A lot of people on here do that too. Just because it works for us, it may not work for you though.

of course. Nothing by mouth the day of though

Thanks all.

i phoned the office and got the okay for the warm 2 tap water ennemas instead of saline

@scott I do get solidified at times stool wise but I think it’s just my gastros preference to ask to do the magnesium citrate

yeah probably he’s going to evaluate the ileum as far as high up that the flexible sigmoidoscope can go

im allowed a light dinner at 5pm start time the evening before the scope which is 11am on 10/10

I’ll have maybe eggs and meatloaf or chicken or something ad no vegetables or fiber the night before

then at 6 630 no later than 7pm night  before it’s written to drink the mag citrate

illl be up in the bathroom with looser movements the night before

im worried about spilling myself at that point because i have had mucosectomy

ive got bleeding polyps the blood shows up in stool periodically and on toilet paper

23 years soon October 15th I fight to keep my pouch and will continue to.

already facing gastrectomy total due to previous hgd and carpeting in multiple areas

FAP is a hellish disease ad I’m showing it whose boss!

thanks for the feedback

Update:

callled gastros office

the magnesium citrate is not necessary for my flex sig

the nurse checking off my instructions made a error those were the of instructions

I’m to do two warm tap water enemas and have a ight dinner about 5 pm Wednesday the 9th eve of day before scope the 10th

bottom line check with your dr because the instructions could be wrong

they stopped assigning mag citrate over a year ago at the facility I use

so I’m only doing two tap water enemas on the 10th in the very early morning

this info may help someone so sharing

The reason you don’t need the saline (Fleet) enema is because it is hypertonic (concentrated) to pull water from the colon to stimulate evacuation. We do not need that, just the rinsing. It is the container that we need, and rinse till clear. It does not stay in long enough to really matter one way or the other. I have been doing the mag citrate, but it does not bother me, and I do actually wind up expelling some retained solids that way.
