I have just been rolling on the floor with my legs drawn up into the fetal position trying to move gas from my back door. I also kneaded my abdomen trying to get the gas to move.  Does anyone else go through this?  I didn't eat anything to cause it. The pain was bad pressure feeling like I needed to pass through my no longer there anal canal. Are these memory nerves or what?

Finally I got some gas to pass, but was in a lot of pain for several hours. It's times like these that remind me about how bad things use to be. It scares me as this is it. I have an ileostomy and my j-pouch was removed a year ago.

I still need to change my appliance every other day. When I try to go longer my skin gets worse. So I will follow the stoma nurses instructions and change it every other day.  Are any of you changing this often? Skin treatment suggestions are welcome.

Hi from Oz, I had an illeostomy on 24th February, due to yet another op for adhestions, my J pouch wouldn't join again so here we are, a permanent illeostomy. Now got a barbie butt, but get alot of pain in the bum like I wanna go but cant, actually had some seepage today, weird, the op was 5 weeks ago. It was an emergency op so the surgeon left in the J pouch and prob the rectal stump too so wondering if they are causing issues, I intend to ask as my next apppointment soon.

Right now using a 1 piece and have to replace the whole thing every other day which is a bit of a pain, but otherwise the flange breaks down and then skin issues again. The barrier rings don;t really help me so have to use the stoma paste instead but its working, have you tried it? Send off for free samples and find one that suits your skin. I even heard some people are allergic to the tape around the flange so cut it off and stick it down with micropore or a tape they can usel  Something willl work, its just finding it!!!!  There are some stoma pastes without alcohol and kinder to your skin, Eakin I think is one. The other thing to try is stoma powder, just a puff, brush off excess, then paste. Other than than you could have a fungus and need to see your doc for cream.

I also get wind and just have to walk and walk and walk, its really painful so know how you feel.  but I really hate the pressure feeling in the butt, its the worse but luckily still have morphine from my op so am coping - til it runs out

Hope you find the answer to your issues, let me know if you find any answers and good luck

Heather,

I had similar surgery first. She worked on my scarring and adhesions any also diverted from going into the j-pouch out through a permanent ileo.  6 months later she took out my j-pouch and the rectal stump out. That surgery was a year ago.

So for 18 months I have been using ileo supplies.  I have to change every other day in unless it decides to blow before then. Every time I try to go an extra day I regret it. I am in a one piece Hollister and have to build up half of it with a heavy duty ring and then roll up a ring into a worm to go all around when I stick ito onto my body.

It took me a good 6 months to heal from rectal stump removal. I just had a heavy duty physical therapy cushion to sit on. I am glad it's all out and wish I had it removed 2 years before I did.

I finally passed the gas the other night. Lots of rocking around.

Thats what I'm gonna ask the specialist, I want the rectal stump and disconnected J pouch out but don't know if he will agree. Also have a groin hernia that was just about to be repaired until the emergency illeostomy put that back

My stoma nurse said she would show me all the stuff available soon because I want to go on a two piece that doesn't need changing every other day. I've heard they last about 4 days

Hopefully the specialist can answer everything, he told me I shouldn't get stuff from the rectal area as sewn up, but I am so a bit peeved about it

Hope your issues work out

Heather

The operation removing j-pouches includes removal of the rectal stump. Are you from the U.S.? If so please get a second opinion. Let me know and I can give you my Mayo Clinic surgeon's contact info. She performed the removal surgery, that included the rectal stump.

I didn't do any better in 2 piece appliances. I have fibromyalgia and could not stand to wear belts and that might have helped on one or 2 pieces. Most people change 2 times a week. That's my goal.
