What are some of your worse gas causing foods! I had surgery in May and still have horrible gas and cramps! Incubating releases all these gases and stops the cramping until the pouch fills back up with food and gas again. I've tried gas x, but doesn't work for me. So just wondering if I'm eating some gas producing foods! Thanks for your replys and suggestions. grandma64 Confused

I cannot eat things with a lot of fat in them like pastries, puddings etc. I get terrible gas and cramps from these. In addition, red sauces and pizza (again heavy foods) do not agree with my jpouch.

I find my pouch is happiest with cooked meats like pork and chicken, cooked veggies, fruits I can handle, yogurts, eggs, and most other foods. Avoid the fat and gas producing foods and you should feel better. Also sometimes I can handle roughage like salads etc. and other times not so much or not for repeated days in a row. Finally, drink after eating not during and all I really drink is water (hot tea is good also).
Grandma,
My favorite diet for my pouch is one where I cut out all milk products, white breads and cakes and stick to grilled white meats and fish, chopped up veggies like tomatoes and cucumbers and eat fruits like bananas and peaches...no canned, sugared fruits unless drained or apple sauce is good too.
Your pouch just might have bacterial overgrowth due to antibiotic treatments and a good course of probiotics could help you a lot. Take them in the morning on and empty stomach for 1 month and you should see a difference.

I had a lot of those issues now I don't get gas but I am on Omnicef, an antibiotic. Probiotics made my issues worse and there isn't enough science that shows they work without a colon present. For my bacteria overgrowth I am on small dose of antibiotics. Minute I go off them it is a world of hell. Maybe you have some overgrowth or pouchitis? I can tell when mine is bad off of antibiotics. The smell alone is my indication.
