What I find ironical is not many people remember the 1970s when children getting colonoscopies were not allowed to be sedated. Therefore my screams went unheeded. I was told to shut up and relax. And breathe deeply. Over and over.

Oh I remember my first one.

They gave me two valiums. Ha. That was a joke. And I thought it was normal.

This was 1996! I was 40.  Never been scoped. And my only second appointment to a gastro Dr.

I went for a second soon after and could hear people getting them and the ones they do to the stomach from my waiting room.  While the valiums were taking effect.  It was  a circular waiting area with about six rooms. One room was used to scope. And you could hear. Easily.

After about 15 minutes of hearing that I got dressed and left.  They asked me where I was going. I didn't answer. Just left.

And from that point on I had a Dr sedate me. I had at least a dozen scopes.

It was horrible with no sedation.  Dr thought. Well he asked me while doing it if I wanted to watch it in the screen. No!  And said it should not hurt. Well it kinda does pumping air in and all the twists and turns he had to push through.

I cannot imagine children being put through that.

Horrible.
