I would love to know too! I had bariatric surgery in Sept. and since then, it happens all the time. Can't figure out why!
thanks.
Hello, Avery099,
I experience that problem when I fall off the wagon (it's a short distance) and eat fish and chips, or anything deep fried or remotely greasy and fatty. I try to avoid butter, cake icing, pastries made with shortening, etc. Floating stool can also be a sign of malabsorption.
Fatty stool (that's what makes it float) comes from fat absorption or metabolism issues. Gall bladder problems are a common cause.
Scott, fat absorption or lack of absorption? Since I not eat much anymore .... and absorption is an issue for me. I take a boatload of vitamins because half my small intestine and stomach have been rerouted.
Is it something to be concerned about? It isn't always that way and my diet has very little fatty or greasy foods. Still having trouble eating and other problems due to cuffitis issues.
Fat malabsorption (I called it an absorption "issue" above) is sometimes situational. If it only bothers you when you overindulge in greasy food, and you can tolerate the dietary limitations, then (at least for the time being) you can probably ignore it. Sometimes it will progress into something you're obliged to handle medically, and sometimes it won't. Having your gall bladder removed doesn't necessarily make fish and chips a well-tolerated meal.
