Boy, did I make a mistake yesterday!  I've been rotating Flagyl with other antibiotics for years and have never forgotten about the rule that alcohol and Flagyl are not friends.  Well, last night, I switched back to Flagyl, and an hour later, went downstairs and had a mixed drink (about a shot of vodka in it).  As soon as I finished my drink I went into to total panic mode realizing what I did!  Long story short, I feel really crappy this morning.  Flu-like and have just been really warm.  I think the fact that it wasn't really in my bloodstream yet since it was my first dose might have saved me.  I was so scared of the violent illness I've read about for all these years.  Bottom line...don't try it on purpose!

I have mixed alcohol with flagyl and cipro with no issues. I am only taking 500 mg of cipro and 250 mg of flagyl daily but on Easter Sunday I had a bunch of Mojitos and was no worse for it. Note that I am also taking Methotrexate and my alcohol has been capped at 2 drinks per week by my Doc, although I have violated that rule occasionally and my liver chemistries and body have behaved well.

I wouldn’t automatically assume that the interaction is the reason why you feel lousy, although it very well may be.

Yeah, I did lots of reading last night about people's reactions while I was sitting there freaking out.  Sounds like some people react so horribly to even the tiniest bit of alcohol with severe vomiting, some have more moderate to mild nausea and feel very warm or flu-like, and some have no issues at all!  Good to hear that it doesn't bother you.  I rarely drink so it's never been a big deal before to me to even worry about.

I seem to be very resistant to side effects and drug interactions generally, with some exceptions. I have developed yeast infections while on antibiotics (and warts), and I am very sensitive to Imodium and require an extremely minimal amount for it to do it’s job. But with alcohol I never had a problem mixing it with cipro and flagyl. I even remember one year forgetting it could be a possible issue, and getting bombed drunk while in Montreal for the Jazz Festival. And had no issues at all.  For other people the best advice is to try small quantities of the drug with a small amount of booze and see what happens. But in my case for sure there have been no issues.
