So, I am leaving CC w/o surgery for my 3 fistulas. Dr. Remzi & Dr. Shen did not think surgery was the best way to go just yet. Even after all the tests they did(CT, BE, pouchoscopy) where there was no indication of Crohns, neither is convinced it is not Crohns. So, with a 20% chance of losing the pouch & w/ no interruptions to my daily living, we're waiting it out. Dr. Remzi also believes all the bowel obstructions (4 in the last 10 months) is b/c the fistulas get inflamed, swell causing the blockage. With all this said, I have decided that my eating habits are the first thing I need to do to ward off those inflammations. I know that everyone is different, all food reactions are different but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what kinds of food/diet is the best to keep the inflammation to a minimum. I really don't want to keep battling bowel obstructions & know there has to be a better diet to follow then just "eat it unless it bothers you." Dr. Remzi/Shen will be discussing a course of meds, if any, but I won't know anything until next week as Dr. Shen is away until Nov. 5th due to his father's illness. So....any ideas.....ANY info you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated!! TIA!

You should do some research on anti-anflammatory diets. The often include the following:

green tea
fish oil
olive oil 100% unrefined
salmon,trout tuna, herring, sardines(uugh I know)
no carbs, wheat, flour, sugar
tumeric, ginger, cinammon
green leafy vegetables (if tolerated) and plant based foods

See the following link below. Dr. Weil has a lot of valuable information on anti inflammatory diets. I have been following this for over a week and already feel better. I actually stopped my antibiotic a couple of days ago (first time in 18 months) and so far feel fine. I am still dealing with my cuffitis issues though.

aka,

I have been doing this for over a week and this is the first time I have been off antibiotics for more than two days with no issues so far..and I considered myself a good eater before.....praying...hope this helps you!!! It may be just because I still have a lot of the drugs in my system that is helping me get by but whatever it is I'll take it.
