Hi.  I have apparently recently developed some fistulas due to some chronic pouchitis.  I seem to have feces coming out of my vagina, but when I was just scoped, which included a good look in my vagina, the surgeon said he couldn't find anything.  He said it might be too small to find.  My worry is if he can't find it, he can't fix it.

I have been on augmentin.  Has anyone had any success with having them close after being on antibiotics?

I find this whole thing to be very depressing, and I'm extremely worried.  The surgeon scheduled me for a follow-up visit in the office at the very end of January (his first opening), but what good will that do?

Thank you for your anticipated feedback.

My understanding is that fistulas do not usually heal on their own. I have one that has formed at my navel and am currently waiting for surgery to be scheduled at Cleveland Clinic. A CT scan helped to locate it.

I certainly understand your concern and waiting until the end of January for an appointment is not helpful. Do you have a gynecologist or gastroenterologist that you could see?

Thank you, catinthehat.  Yes, my next stop will be a gynecologist to see if she could spot something.   I'm looking into natural anti-inflammatories to try and get the inflammation under control since it's the pouchitis that caused the fistulas.  I may need to take a trip to the Mayo Clinic (where my first surgeon is) to get a thorough work up.  I adore my NY surgeon, but I adore the facilities at the Mayo.  They provided me with care that could not be compared to the tri-state area.

Thank God that I don't usually leak during the day; it's usually in the wee hours of the morning that it comes out.  I am not woken up by the feeling that I have to go--I wake up from the sensation of it coming out.

The other night I put a tampon in to see if I could prevent leakage, and interestingly enough, I still leaked, and the tampon was clean so maybe it's right at the entrance of the vagina.  I have no idea at this point.  It's like I need to hire a forensic scientist at this point to figure this one out...  It's very depressing.  I feel like such a freak.
