I’m getting fistula surgery in March after being with a seton for 8 months. It’s at Cleveland Clinic Florida. The fistula is no where near pouch. Surgeon is going to do an advancement flap surgery. Anyone here has had this? What should I expect?

Hey, I have a fistula too with a seton. My surgeon has already tried to “lay it open” but that didn’t work so he’s going to give me a stoma and try a different approach. I’ve only read about the flap surgery, I really hope you get a successful outcome!

Where is your fistula? Mine will not attempt lay open due to risk of incontinence. Did this happen to you? LIFT is another type surgery they can do but like Flap it requires skill and precision.
It’s rectovaginal and low. My surgeon gave me an internal scan before the surgery to be certain of the muscle location. They made the approach vaginally but it didn’t work from day one unfortunately.
Ive read of quite a few different options for closure, like with fibrin glue. It’s something my surgeon doesn’t have a lot of experience with.
I have a fistula that has been quiet for some time now 🤞. My dr thought surgery but we tried lomotil first and seems to work. I had lots of flatulence from vagina with stool output too.
Try lomotil first
