Hello,
I have recently (1 month ago) had a seton put in place and when talking to my surgeon about next steps he informed me that he has never done a "plug" for someone with a J-pouch. He originally did the pouch surgery for me so I assumed he was the best one to go to for further complications. At this time he is recommending that I seek out an "expert" in j-pouches either at the Cleveland Clinic or the Mayo Clinic. I'm in Tampa Florida and haven't heard great things about the CC in Westin Fl so I guess it's Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville here I come.
My question is, is the repair for fistula's different for j-pouchers than it is for individuals with normal colons? I would assume that it is more complicated but are the success ratio's (or lack thereof) for plugs and other methods the same for both?
Thank you
