My j-pouch completed in early 2009. It took my body four yrs to realize what had happened. Nevertheless, the last scope showed that I have fissure/s. GI says they will never go away. I wonder why? I also wonder what caused them. Scopes are very painful

I can't take anti depressant because it turns food into liquid and constantly burns the fissures all the time even at night. I need anti depressant terribly.
I use Balneol, A&D ointment, bidet for cleansing and comfort. I take 10 tabs/day of Lomotil for diarrhea. Metamucil twice/day. Can't eat citrus because it also turns food to liquid.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you had any specific treatment for the fissures, like nitroglycerine cream, nifedipine cream or similar treatments? There is also Botox injections or even a sphincterotomy. If your GI has determined the fissures are not going to heal, he should give you a referral for other treatment. You should not accept this sort of pain as a lifestyle!

You are doing what you can on your own, and it is not enough. The only other self help suggestion I have is sitz baths for the fissures and an elimination diet to try to better control your output.

I definitely would get a second opinion. Plus, you should get sedation or at the very least, topical anesthetic for scopes with these fissures.

Thank you so much, Jan! Two yrs ago when GI diagnosed the fissure/s on scope, I was told it was something I would have to accept. So I did (in order to cope). My husband died the same time; it has taken two yrs for me to start "thinking" again. We were both sick trying to care for each other. I was healthy up until UC at age 61.
No, I have not tried any of those medicines u suggested. But I will. I am so thankful I posted this today.
