Well, after being in the hospital for the 5th time in 15 months for small bowel obstructions, we finally did surgery. Ended up working out in a bizarre way as I was traveling for work in a small town in Iowa, which is only an hour from Mayo Clinic, which I couldn't have been happier to be at for surgery. Surgery was going to be needed regardless as this band of adhesion was not breaking after 7 days of waiting. The images the surgeon's shared with me were crazy. So, they cut through 2 adhesion spots, which have likely been the culprits over these months. On a great note, they got to look at the whole bowel, which showed no evidence of strictures or Crohn's (a fear always in the back of my mind).
Now, I'm on day 10 (day 10 since obstruction and day 3 post op). Finally starting to feel better today with belly distension going down and NG output starting to slow down considerably. Ileus is always a problem for me post surgery so I've got some more waiting to do. Feeling hopeful only one more day on the NG (thinking we'll try to clamp it tomorrow). 9 days on NG is more than anyone should every have to have one. Thank goodness for TPN and PICC lines to keep me fed!
Just wanted to share on how I've been doing. Thanks everyone!
