I have my takedown in about 2 weeks or so. Only a few questions that I wish to ask the many people here who have been through it.

1. What to bring and what to expect.

2. How long of a hospital stay should I look forward to and what frequency should I expect while there

3. What foods should I avoid during the few weeks?

4. What is the frequency that I should expect in the first few weeks?

5. When did it get better?

6. With the concerns of pouchitis. My surgeon said that it shouldn't even be of question in the first year. Does this usually hold up or was she giving me the run around? lol.

7. She made a few remarks of things being easier since my sphincter muscle looks to be very strong. What will be the benefits of this?

Do apologize if this is too many. I appreciate the ones that can be answered. I thank you for your time!

I'm right behind you - scheduled for takedown surgery on
August 28th!

After reading up from folks having takedown surgery my list is as follows:

A couple of rolls of nice, soft TP.

1 tube Calmoseptine ointment

1 bottle B-SURE perianal wash

1 small box of B-SURE absorbent pads

I'm hoping this will be enough to get me by in the hospital and home again.

Good luck with your takedown! Cool
1. Something to entertain yourself with. I had my iPhone, NDS, some Sudoku puzzles, and my laptop. Also ask the nurse for some earplugs and a nightmask (I got some for free and greatly helped me sleep from all the noises and if one of the nurses has to turn on the lights). Wet wipes, calmoseptine, a roll of soft TP, and maybe a portable bidet if you want one.

2. I think I was in the hospital for about 4-5 days (honestly don't remember. The first day after surgery there was no bathroom trips. The second day I could feel my intestines starting to wake up and sometime around midnight I had my first BM.

3. Anything spicy. I ate at Sonnys BBQ 3 days out after being released and had no issue. I just didn't use any spicy sauce.

4. Anywhere from 8-12 times a day. Depends on the food and how fast the jpouch can adapt. After I had my staples removed from the incision my surgeon gave me the ok to take Imodium.

5. About 2-3 weeks after surgery it became much better.

6. I think it honestly depends on the person. I've noticed an uptick in BMs for me in the last week. Maybe because of my diet but if it seems like it is getting worse I'll contact my surgeon and GI doc.

7. You shouldn't have leaks at all. I never have them during the day, but sometimes at night I will have them. Just keep doing kegel exercises.
