I haven't had it ordered for me, but I did the collection when I was working on the medical ward. That was decades ago. I didn't know they still did it. Basically, you just collect your poop for 24 hours after eating a prescribed diet with a specific amount of fat in it. It determines if you are digesting and absorbing fat in your gut. It does not provide a specific diagnosis, just a type of malabsorption.

Are they looking for something specific?

They are looking to determine fat malabsorption, and ?pancreatic insufficiency. He did a fecel elastase test also.I am not looking forward to it!

It would be so much better to have a disease of the elbow than the colon.....and this test is one of the very reasons why. I've had to collect my urine for 24 hours several times. It's best if you live in a cold winter area so if it has to be refrigerated you can keep the collections in your garage

Finally got results for for fecal fat test, significant steatorrhea (also Vitamin D deficient), but apart from possible Vitamin D intramuscularly didn't say what I can do for the steatorrhea?
