I heard about a fecal matter transplant way back in my UC days but realized my GI docs never recommended it because it was more for infections like CDiff and not an autoimmune disease like UC or Chrons. It similar to taking probiotics but totally removing all the waste that your body has that may be contain a lot of harmful bacteria and replacing it with someone else's fecal matter that has more healthy bacteria in it. Kind of creepy if you ask me.
Come on David - it's only like 24-30 pills at one sitting Smiler And they're triple-layered for digestion in the colon (I guess they would have to custom-make double-layered pills for those of us with j-pouches).

Pkitty - I have not read they are isolating the good bacteria. I believe they filter out the particulate matter, and I read they also make sure there are no pathogens (parasites, bad bacteria, etc.). So in that sense they isolate the good bacteria. But besides the known offenders like C-diff, that's one of the problems they have - what combination of bacteria constitute "good bacteria?" They do not know yet - and also don't know if it differs from person to person.

For the record, I'd have no problem downing 30 poop pills if it would have cleared up my UC. I might have even done the poop enema - though that is harder for me to stomach, actually.

Steve
