I'm a 43-year-old man originally from the New York City/New Jersey region of the U.S., now living in Mexico. I was 32-years-old when I had my ultimate surgery removing my rectum and replacing it with a J-Pouch. I figured it would be interesting meeting other FAP/Gardners people who live with a J-Pouch... I imagine that most people feel very alone with their personal experience and that few of the surgeons who perform this surgery are sensitive to the true experience of living with a J-Pouch... Granted, the idea of having the surgery is for living a few years more...However...

I am 27 and was diagnosed with FAP in December of this year. I also live in NJ and had my surgery done in robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. My father(who got it from his mother) passed it to me as well as my brother. I had my temp ileo sugery on may first and on July 3rd had my take down. All in all it is going well. Painful BM's due to but burn but I am coping. I do know my father and brother both felt very alone about their medical situations and for some reason when I became diagnosed they both were able to speak more openly about it. My father has a perm ileo and my brother has a jpouch.
