Friends,

I need your help. Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. For the past 2 months I have been experiencing the following symptoms, which are progressively getting worse: rapid, unexplained weight loss, nausea, food aversions (I'm not pregnant), lack of appetite, extreme lower back, upper abdominal, and lower abdominal pain (especially after eating), occasional vomiting, fainting, and very, very bad daily headaches. I have a J-pouch and I got scared once I started losing so much weight (I've lost 27 pounds and used to be at a healthy weight) so I went to my GI doctor. He has done every test under the sun and doesn't think anything is wrong with my stomach or my pouch. I have no health insurance at the moment so it's very hard to afford the bills, especially since I am too sick to work. Some days my body hurts and my bones hurt so badly that I can't even get out of bed. What is going on with me? I have no idea what to do!

There are many things they could have missed, and plenty of them are not in the GI tract. Unexplained weight loss can sometimes signal a very big deal. I suggest you get health insurance without delay (though you've just missed the end of open enrolment under the Affordable Care Act, you *might* be able to squeak in under the grace period). I'd also suggest you see an internist rather than focusing on one particular organ or body system.

Thankfully I was able to get insurance that kicks in May 1st. I think you're right, maybe I should see a primary doctor. The weight loss is the most startling aspect of what's going on with me right now...I'm scared. I'm getting very thin. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? All I'm hearing from the doctors is what's not wrong, which is great, but I need to find out what's going on because I am SO sick.
