Jan Dollar posted:Neither Gas-X nor loperamide do anything to prevent or stop gas. Simethicone jst makes lityle bubbles into big bubbles you can burp or fart (it is a surfactant). Loperamide just slows the gut. Good for watery stools, not so much for gas. Actually, slowing the gut can promote gas by leaving undigested carbs in there for bacteria to work on.
This is why the strategy is to reduce bacteria, either with antibiotics or bismuth subsalicylcate (Pepto Bismol), and using probiotics to maintain balance.

So please can you explain what to take to reduce the gas I usually take. gas-x but it doesn’t really work
I get really bad gas with no sibo and mechanical issues. I'm guessing its from all the carbs I eat.
Hi Jan, thanks for that information. Seems like you definitely know your stuff! Do you know if taking Pepto-Bismol once a day, regularly, to help prevent gas would be OK? Like 1 tablet a day with my other meds. Gas is a big problem for me.
