Neither Gas-X nor loperamide do anything to prevent or stop gas. Simethicone jst makes lityle bubbles into big bubbles you can burp or fart (it is a surfactant). Loperamide just slows the gut. Good for watery stools, not so much for gas. Actually, slowing the gut can promote gas by leaving undigested carbs in there for bacteria to work on.

This is why the strategy is to reduce bacteria, either with antibiotics or bismuth subsalicylcate (Pepto Bismol), and using probiotics to maintain balance.

I've had tons of gas, a few different times and especially at night. My causes were c.diff, Pouchitis, Thrush(white tongue) and most recently a stricture. I needed antibiotics/anti-fungals to treat the first 3 causes and dilation for the stricture but I need a GI for all of them, I'd try to get in sooner to see the GI if possible.

Simethicone never really helped me.
