I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before. I went in about a month ago and dr remzi put in a mushroom drain bc there was an infection and he could not do the procedure he wanted to do, which was place a seton in, I am now worried what is going to happen on tuesday. I am a bit nervous because this mushroom drain is a pain and I just want to get better. If anyone can give me so insite on this I would greatly appreciate it Smiler

hey danielle. Wanted to let you know I'll be thinking of you tomorrow as I'm having an EUA with dr. remzi then too. I've had a mushroom drain for 8 torturous weeks now. I've been told I'll be lucky if he changes up and puts a smaller mushroom catheter in tomorrow. So I'm not feeling optimistic about tomorrow for myself.

Your situation is different though as my draining area is from where the jpouch was removed. So hopefully the mush drain helped you and he can now do a seton. Its my understanding that those aren't too difficult to deal with, particularly compared to a mushroom cath. Are you at CC today for preop stuff?
I just got this reply. But I was the second person to go in the OR today. I wondered if you were the first person to go today? He was able to put the cutting seton in. It is very uncomfortable and very painful. He told my parents that I will be in some pain the next few days and will be uncomfortable for awhile. How did yours go? I have to go back January 7th for preop and January 8th for another EUA.
hey danielle - I was probably sliced and diced right after you yesterday. I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Hopefully things will settle down for you in the next few days. Just remember to take your pain meds as soon as you can, before it gets worse. I was popping them myself throughout the night!

I was fortunate in one way yesterday, as he took out the dreadful, despicable, horrid, torturous mushroom catheter aka butt tube. After eight weeks with that thing I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies. But unfortunately the plan is to keep going back for EUAs to proactively make sure things stay open to heal. Fun fun fun. So I'm back in just a mere four weeks this time for yet another incision and draining EUA. That will be my 6th EUA this year after my massive jpouch removal surgery.
But what can you do. Like you said elsewhere.. just gotta roll with the punches.. or EUAs in my case!
hang in there danielle.
I'm trying to stay ahead of the pain but its so hard when you finally sleep then you are behind!

But I was so happy to have that mushroom drain gone bc it was really hurting me. But this cutting seton is hurting too! He told my parents the first 3-4 days are goin to be pretty bad but I just gotta keep pushing thru. That was my 2nd EUA I have to go back in January for another one. Just to see how things are going. This is just so frustrating bc this wasn't supposed to happen but ya know I'm alive and besides the pain from the seton I feel good. So take the good with the bad I guess.
