70% of your immune system is in your digestive system. To have your food broken down you need enough enzymes to break the food down for the nutrients to be absorbed. So if you are having a problem with food allergies, diarrhea, constipation, hair loss, colds, sinus infections, etc.; you may need to supplement enzymes into your diet. Probiotics are needed for a healthy gut, enzymes are needed to break down the food so a healthy gut can absorb them. This made me think of pouchitis.

Raw foods, and fermented foods add enzymes to your gut. You can also buy it in a supplement at a health food store. Only take it in supplement form if you are low in enzymes, as it can cause more trouble. As we age, eat junk food, take some medications; your body may not have enough enzymes to absorb your nutrients.

I thought this was a very interesting subject for those with digestive issues.

I personally don't take a supplement for enzymes, but I don't have trouble with absorbtion of my nutrients. If I did, I would look into enzymes.

Thanks Lois,
I have been taking papaya enzymes on and off for years but there are tons more that can help with digestion/absorption...I truely believe that it all starts in the gut and that we have to baby ours more than most people...if you have any thoughts on what kind of enzymes to take or could help, just let me know, I am very interested.

Thanks for asking Sally,
I guess that no matter what I am going through...it is nothing compared to what you are living through...Every single time I think of you (and I think of you often) my heart breaks for your pain...I second Jan in that no parent should have to live through the loss of a child...the only thing that can ease the grief over time is knowing that her life goes on in others...and that she is now watching over you...
As for me, my pouch, as usual, is being stubborn, pig headed and vendictive. I am fighting the slew of winter viruses, bugs etc...and am not pleased with the results...I can't shake them, it has been 2 weeks and I am now fighting something living in my guts...nausea, headache, bloating etc...I am just hoping that my immune system kicks in soon and I can get past it...For now...hot tea and toast...and life goes on.
Hugs and hopes for peace of heart

Thanks Sally,
I saw the doctor, he gave me a script for pain meds, Vit D and a whole lot of stuff but the dizzy, nausea etc is also partially the epilepsy that goes nuts when the rest of my body is weak and depleated by cold/flu (could also be that with my guts upside down the epilepsy meds are running right through me)...I had to quit the computer last night, my head was spinning...I am pretty sure that a flu-like thingy has got hold of me or my cold is a bit out of control...This is normal for me, I don't get sick often but when I do it sticks around for a while...this too shall pass...I took gravol last night because between the dizzy, upset pouch and nausea I couldn't lay flat (the bed was spinning) and the gas was unconrolable...it did the trick in under 1/2hr...so I got a good night's sleep...still woozy this morning but less so...
I can't go see the doc again because I got a letter yesterday telling me that my insurance no longer covers me!
Have to straiten things out today.

Hi Sharon, I am sending you all the positive vibes and energy I can gather and praying for you. I thought you had socialized medicine there. Do you need some money to see the doctor? I don't have much, but I could do a fundraiser maybe. Is there something you need from the States that you can't get there?.let me know. Btw, the SerraEnzyme is an anti-inflammatory. You get it online. It has sure helped me, along with an anti-inflammatory diet; i.e., avocados w/lime, salmon, etc.
What can i do?

You are so sweet Sally, but no, I do not need any money...just for the red-tape and administration to straiten out their data base and give me back my life! They had a SNFU with my closing up of my company last year and the opening of a much smaller entity...they took advantage of the situation to change my Social Security number (!!!) and now I am none existant in everyone's database...the payers are paying into the old number and the recievers are not doing the transfer...So I am not paid up even though I have paid in...will work itself out in the end...I am sure...but for now I have to find the strength to attack all of the phone calls and paperwork (income tax is after me for business tax on a business that no longer exisits too)...I can't seem to get these people to talk to each other....
I will look into the enzymes to see if I can get them here...I will only take you up on your offer (maybe for vitamins and suppliments) if you allow me to trade you for stuff from here (in Paris) and to pay you for anything that I ask for.
It goes without saying that even if I don't need anything from State-side I would be happy to send you anything that you would like from here...I love sending out care-packages to pouchers...makes me happy.
thank you so much for the offer

Woodstock,
I do not ever take coated of LP (prolonged release) pills...they leave my body long before they are digested but when my pouch is being pouchy, it chuck things up and out long before they can be absorbed..even the simple stuff...
Some tricks are cutting or crushing pills but you need to ask your pharmacist first if you can.
