Is it possible to disconnect the jpouch temporarily with an end ileostomy? One failed loop revision already and about at our wits end!! Stoma has retracted AGAIN and stool is still getting through to the jpouch and causing pain--the purpose of disconnecting it in the first place!! The stoma site also causes pain. Sooo frustrated.

In the UK - it is something you have to put up with - you don't get any revisions, because it causes problems...(so I am told)- ie I cannot have one, stool DOES get through to the non functioning j pouch - I am told that is normal, especially very liquid stool (I go 10+ times a day to empty my, as yet 'non' functioning j pouch, as well as my loop ileo)
Sorry to be a little negative, but after one failed revision - why do you want another? Can't you put up with what you have, take pain killers (as I do) and wait for takedown (as I am). I have a leaky pouch, so have no date for takedown (gone 5 months now)
I might not been specific enough. The loop is only temporary before reconstructing the pouch and then it will be another 3 months+ with the same loop before takedown. The revision was of the temporary loop ileostomy only, nothing has been touched with the original pouch yet.

I am wondering, if once you have a pouch, can you go to an end ileo and back to the pouch?

It only makes sense that they want to do a loop so they have both ends right there to reconnect rather than have to go "fishing" for the other end later down the road to reconnect??
When my surgeon did my end ileo and left the pouch in he told me I could have some kids and then reconnect - so yes, you can go from an end ileo back to jpouch. It might be more effort for the surgeon and so if your diversion is short term that may be why they want to stick to loop. We knew my diversion was going to be long term.
