Just curious if anyone has used EGCg (Green tea extract) for pouchitis. I have been battling pouchitis since my surgery. I get put on cipro and flagyl and I'll feel fine for a week or two and then get pouchitis again. It's a vicious cycle. I went to the doctor the other day and he told me to take EGCg and in 2 weeks if there's no improvement then I go back on cipro. I was wondering if there's anyone out there that has tried this and did it work?

Where do you get this?
The doctor said to order it online or just go to Wal-Mart to buy it.
Really
How much does he say to take
Is this just a stab in the dark, or does your doc have some data on this? I am curious.

This treatment was recommended to me by Dr. Shen although I haven't taken it long enough to discuss its effectiveness.
Sounds like a small group of 9 patients tried this therapy to come off of antibiotics. 7 reported improvements. 5 reported that they no longer needed antibiotics. 2 reported no benefit.
I'm also curious if anybody else has tried this therapy.
How much do you take?
Hi friends
dr Shen told me to start on NOW brand 400 mg of Egcg green tea extract daily for one month to see if my symptoms remit. I have chronic pouchitis and we are contemplating Entivio next. Has anyone had success with the egcg? Please tell me there is hope I just don’t want to start a biologic
I did not want to do Entyvio either but it gave me my life back.
3 years and counting.
i hope the green tea helps, but don’t be afraid of E.
Dr. Shen recently recommended EGCg 400 mg to me - he said he is a fan of it (NOW brand - see link below). Dr. Shen said that there are some studies out there where some patients have shown an improvement in their pouchitis after taking EGCg.
I am weening myself off Xifaxan, which I have taken for 10+ years, and will give this a shot. I am still taking sulfasalazine and canasa.
Have you seen dr Shen recently?
I had a telemedicine session with him two weeks ago, so I am now set up as a patient of his at Columbia. I am planning to schedule a scope in NYC later this year when things return to normal, or some semblance of it. I was planning to change to a new doctor at the Cleveland Clinic, especially since I live in Ohio, but then figured staying under Dr. Shen’s care is worth any inconvenience of traveling to NYC.

I’m thrilled to hear this I’m going to set that up right now! Do you mind sharing the cost of the virtual visit with me?
My Dr recommended EGCg for pouchitis . I take one tablet daily. I have been taking it for 2 months. I can tell it has helped with my pouchitis. I ordered mine from Amazon.
I have seen the bill yet for the telemedicine visit with Dr. Shen - they may be behind on the billing at this point.

Hi! Just curious how it worked out with the green tea extract. How much did you take? Do you still take it? Thanks!

Also interested in the dose. If it’s only 1 capsule daily for pouchitis?. Also interested to hear if pouchitis resolved with the green tea extract.
