I was due for my next Simponi injection today.  It's still sitting in the fridge and I'm procrastinating.  I suppose that if I knew it was helping I would have taken it by now.  Meanwhile, I'm laying in bed and decided tomorrow will be fine to take it.

All I know is that over the past few months I'm 18-20 lbs lighter than I was.  This is the lowest weight I've been at since afternoon surgery in July of 2000.

Just about all my novel movements are mushy and very loud.  Kind of like a really loud wet fart.  I am not trying to be funny bit rather trying to see if anyone can relate.  Like a loud motor sound almost everytime I go for the past few weeks.  I can feel the inflammation, if you know what I mean.  My bowel movement are very consistent in that they are always very loud and mushy.  I can't seem to shake it.  Not sure if my lower 84weight is a problem.  I certainly don't have any extra baby fat on me as I used to have a little.

If anyone can relate, please advise.   I feel like I have been going through the same pattern of poor bowel function for quite some time.  The loud motor-like sounds each and every time I defecate just gives me that weak / sick feeling.

Meanwhile, if the Simponi isn't doing much to help, could it be harming me?

I can't say or prove that my diet makes any difference in my bowel activity at this point.  No matter what I eat, I feel like it goes through me way too fast day after day.

I have religiously been taking the same daily dose of Codeine for many years.  I'm scared to increase it because 360mg / day is already plenty.

Your thoughts?

Capper, I had a look at your December post and there seems to be little change since then. I know that chronic pouchitis can be very exhausting.

You are taking Simponi for almost 5 months now? If there is no improvement by now chances are small it will help you. Does your doctor want to end the therapy after 6 months or so?

I would try an antibiotic or a combination of antibiotics like Flagyl and Cipro for chronic pouchitis. If it helps, you will be better within 2 or 3 days. If it doesn't help within several days, you can switch to another. You said that you already tried Cipro and another one, but there are several more.

I once took Flagyl alone for 4 weeks and it didn't do anything about pouchitis. The combination of both has always been very effective for me and now I've established a chronic use since October. I came to a rather stable digestion with about 4 BM per day, gained a little weight. Just as it should be with a pouch, ideally without meds. But that doesn't seem to work for me.
