Hello,
It's been 2 months since my husbands surgery (May 15th 2013), takedown is scheduled for Aug 21st. He finds himself draining his pouch 6 - 8 times a day (small amount ... about a teaspoon). He's concerned that because he feels the urge to empty such a small amount, so frequently, that after takedown he won't be able to hold much at all. I know there is no normal to any of this, but is this a common feeling prior to takedown? He has recently started doing kiegel's, but was told by the nurses after surgery to not hold back the urge to empty his pouch. I assume this was only post surgery while healing?
He had a few complications after his first surgery... dehydration, abscess, blood clot, multiple hospital stays during the first month. He's had constant problems maintaining healthy skin around his flush stoma, had a hard time getting a good seal. He's anxious to get the second surgery behind him but nervous of more potential problems... hoping for the best.
Thanks for your help and support!
Della

Its normal, i wondered the same thing, how such a small amt was able to make me feel the need to go, but after takedown it was much different, the first week or two of course was rough, alot of butt burn, alot of bathroom trips, but it eased and i began to feel a little better. I'm only 2 months 2 weeks and if i could get this one problem of pain upon emptying out of the way, i think i would be in good shape.
