Hi everyone, i havent posted in a while ive been preparing for my j pouch surgery! well i was until my surgeon said i should loose alot of my baby weight before going ahead with the surgery so its been pushed back for a few months.

I had some questions that i am just totally confused about. Basically i have had two children one before my ileostomy and one after, they are 28 and 3 months old and both boys, i love them to bits but me and my husband would love another little one but just not at the moment. so anyway whats making me think overtime is if i have my j pouch surgery done and then i am hoping to have hernia repair and a tummy tuck because my tummy is just an awful mess (i tried to attach a photo but cant seem to make it work) will i be able to or should i get pregnant after all of this? its just i dont want a baby right now and would love one a few years down the line and i also dont want to wait with my ileostomy for those years and want my body back just a little bit Smiler any suggestions or experiences that anyone could share with me would be so helpful, thanks guys xxxxxxxxxx

The short answer is that the j-pouch surgery increases your risk of infertility, by 30% or more, I believe. It is the rectal dissection and j-pouch creation that does it. The hernia repair and tummy tuck shouldn't be an issue. I am not sure that your surgeon would agree to do a tummy tuck at the same time anyway, since it would add a fair amount of anesthesia time and extra risk of complications. But if he said he would, then there you go! By the way, they usually want you to lose weight before the tummy tuck too, so they are just removing the loose skin. It can be a pretty big surgery.

If you are serious about wanting a third child within the next few years, you can keep your ileostomy until you are done. The main risk there is atrophy (weakness) of the rectal sphincters from lack of use. Kegel exercises should help with that.

hi if sally85 you go ahead and have tummy tuck would love to know how it goes..for years i have wanted to do that..operation messed my lower tummy up a bit..kind of not symetrical..just the way i healed i guess? dr. shen was totally against my screwing around said it was too risky for me..could get infections and so on..so i have not gone..and having gone through 7 years on antibiotics for pouchitis/bacteria overgrowth i was afraid to make anything worse..

wondering if anyone else has had tummy tuck and their experience..
