hey guys. Had takedown on Monday evening. Was doing fine and after eating late Wednesday I started to be a little nauseous. Extra showed partial obstruction from swelling at connection site. I didn't have anything since till right now. I have been emptying stool every few hours but barely any gas at all. Doc said if I tolerate food tonight I can go home tomorrow. I'm just worried I don't have gas. Had a little but none at all today. I'm getting worried. Is having stool with no gas an issue?

Well, passing gas is the hallmark of good function, as it is an indicator of free movement from mouth to anus. I would not worry, just go easy on the solids until you fart. Then you can have the celebration!

Got home today. Now I have opposite issue. The gas is very uncomfortable and can only pass it on toilet before bowel movement. Don't want to try it not on toilet as crap my pants. It just keeps building and hurts. Anything to do in regards to gas??
Yep. Release it. You can go easy on carbs you do not digest easily, as most gas is caused by bacterial action on undigested carbs. But, your gut is just fully waking up, so it will be touchy for a few weeks at least.
By the way, in over 20 years with a j-pouch I have yet to reliably fart without stool slipping out with it. I sure hope that wasn't a big goal for you!

I only wish I was in your shoes since that's the case. Until I had j pouch surgery I never dreamed gas would become my worst nightmare.
Gas is my friend and when I don't have any I truly miss it! I call it my duct cleaner. I find that if I eat an apple a day (skin and all) it does keep the doctor away and the helpful gas doing its job! Usually I pass gas at the conclusion of a B.M. It is my signal that I'm empty and good to (not) go for quite awhile!
The only way I can pass gas is to lie down flat on my stomach with my right knee slightly bent and wait!
This sounds a little like my post surgical course. I had ileus, so no movement initially, then I was passing very thick stool after about 8 days. A couple of days before I was finally discharged home, I developed gas and the discomfort from the gas was excruciating. However, my surgeon at the time thought that was an excellent sign that things were starting to progress. So, while uncomfortable, perhaps take it as a sign that things are starting to move along as they should. That said, I found that Tylenol extra strength did help with the discomfort somewhat. It is still there, but it dulled the pain a bit.
These days, I can also pass gas if I lay down on my back with my knees up to my chest, or if I lay on my side in a fetal position. Otherwise, it's only in the bathroom.
Also, like CeeCee, gas at the end of a BM usually means the pouch is all done and empty. It's a happy sign! LOL
