I've had chronic pouchitis since takedown surgery in September. While on antibiotics I do great; one week without them and I'm back to square one. I'm also 17w pregnant, which I know doesn't help w/ pouchitis.

I'm just curious if anyone changes their diet during bouts of pouchitis and what they change. I've read many things that contradict each other. I realize everyone is different and responds differently, just looking for ideas to try.

Thanks!

hi if you have chronic pouchitis (or maybe small intestine bacteria growth or both ) it might be very worth your trying the diet approach..i was in same boat with chronic pouchitis or later diagnosed by shen as sibo..either case bad bacteria not helping..on antibiotics all the time one day without and i could be dead meat!!!

i have dropped all simple carbs..that means grains(bread for sure)potatoes, rice and corn(high starch)all other veggies ok...and simple sugar but eat lots of natural fruit...i limit dairy to greek yoghurt eggs...eat protein no problem,meats,poultry,fish...

and as i reported on other threads i have been antibiotic free for over 5 weeks now...i do not count how many times i go (but i would guess about 8 times or so in 24 hours) or how it comes out..just as long as i do not have any pain,do not have to go constantly and no burning..for that diet is working and the big plus no antibiotics ..i have had to rotate antibiotics for 5 years prior to this ..could not stay on any one long term..

it takes some disipline but seriously as soon as i realized i was off of antibiotics for first time in 7 years and no pain sticking to diet got to be easier than one would think....i think pain and on toilet all night or on a sitz bath and i have no trouble avoiding the simple carbs!!

but i must admit i have desires for something sweet so i eat a lot of fruits(but no real issues)and i use almond flour all the time ..you can make some pretty easy good stuff including an almond bread..make it in 15 minutes before baking..i use almond flour for pancakes and breading..by the way i am not a cook in any other way..but these are simple recipes i found in scd diet..
I eat Paleo. Tons of awesome recipes out there. I have a pretty good variety of a diet. I use honey instead of sugar since it is a single sugar and we break it down differently. Sugar is the main culprit to growing bacteria. Sugar is almost in anything these days. So basically, you eat clean.

Want ice cream? Simple.. make your own with fruit or honey to sweeten it. Etc.

I make cakes with coconut sweetened condensed cream and frosting out of coconut meat. Amazon has many books out there.

I puree a lot of veggies to make sauces like pestos, chimichurri, salsa verdes, etc. Keeps the pallet happy.

The only way I eat dairy is goat since that is paleo friendly and the body breaks down Goat products better. I make awesome goat milk cheesecake, ice cream, yogurt, etc. The only time I use cow's milk is in coffee I drink (one up daily) and for that I only use RAW milk I but in Amish land here. I notice if I drink RAW milk I get no gas or foamy stool coming out.
way to go vannessay!!helps our pouches, but not bad diet under any circumstances..pretty healthy..i think i can speak for both of us i think in saying we stay away from anything processed..there are always ways to make eatting fun and you are right on..mention if you will any favorite book out there with receipes you like.want to try expanding my things to eat..hope others will try and get on this band wagon..once you come to the other side(diet change) the results can make it sooo worth while..i still can not believe i am off of antibiotics!!!
