I went back to work this week. First week back, and it went well physically, but managing the GI issues will be a challenge I can see. I generally take 2 immodium before every meal and at bedtime, also Fiber am and pm. This keeps me fairly "thick" and with little diarrhea. Well Friday night came and the week was over and I thought I would celebrate with some beers.
Two things happened.
One I think Beer is more potent now that I have a J pouch
Two I had terrible burning butt today.
Anyone else have that?
Love to hear if Beer is out forever?

I have a beer now and then, it mostly just gives me a little more gas than usual. Don't notice any more BB. My drink-of-choice is wine, which seems to give me no problems, yay.

I don't know how far out you are from your surgeries, but it may just be too soon to start with carbonated drinks - or you may need to start more slowly (1 beer/occasion) and eat something absorbing at the same time, such as crackers, cheese, etc.

No, I surely wouldn't say beer is out forever, but go slow!
Draft beer gives me gas, but bottles do me better. I, too, probably drink wine more often than beer these days.

I had surgery when I was 19/almost 20, and by 21, I was having a *normal* college experience, so alcohol IS possible, for sure. It did increase my output a bit back then, but not too much to avoid it. These days it doesn't really affect me much at all.

I do prefer to eat when I drink, though, which counteracts it, too, at least for me.
I still enjoy a beer or two every now and then. The weekend after July 4th I went to the lake with friends and drank alot of beer (maybe a little to much!) lol. The only effect was a bit more gas but I did notice that after a few beers I did not have to have a BM while drinking. The next day was pretty normal aside from the hangover. I usually only drink when I am feeling really healthy though. If I have a case of pouchitis or feel one coming on I stay away from the beer as I'm sure it would only aggravate things. Also try not to drink so much that u sleep right through the nightly bathroom trips. Hasn't happened to me yet but I am always worried about the pass out binge type drinking and not being able to wake up to use the restroom.
I'm not a beer drinker, but I do like my wine or mixed drinks. I find I do get a bit more butt burn the next day. I just kind of deal with it. I usually only have two drinks and it's in moderation (once every other week at most). My tummy does sometimes go out of whack but I can never tell if it is from drinking, what I ate, or the time of the month (I really need to keep a log or something...).
Beer was my drink of choice, but it does cause serious butt burn for me. I am not sure if it is gluten (as I find gluten does affect me somewhat). Mixed drinks with little sugar doesn't bother me at all (cranberry (1/2 cal)/vodka)). Wine causes major butt burn for me and if I have a drink with a lot of sugar----then I have severe itching. Hope this helps!

I will say that if I do drink a few, I can sleep through the night---I suppose because I am so dehydrated.
