Dilation under anesthesia

I had to have 5 total dilations done before my stricture stayed open. I didn't do them under anesthesia though...just in office digital dilations. It's basically scar tissue that's forming and by dilating it stretches the opening. After several times doing this it will stop forming and stay open on its own. It's literally a pain in the butt but it will get resolved. It's been almost three years and I have havent had an issue since. Good luck!

Thanks Marianne. Yeah the Dr. explained almost exactly how you did about the scar tissue. I don't mind if that is what has to be done to get things working properly. You are definitely much braver than I am getting it done in the office. After he gave me the option of anesthesia it was an easy decision. I'm not afraid as a man to admit I'm a big baby when it comes to stuff like that. I had the procedure done around 1pm and happy to report everything when smoothly. No sign of pouchitis, cuffitis, inflammation, or anything else that would cause worry. He also said that whatever I doing to keep my skin in tact and healthy continue doing because it looks great. Just a little sore after everything but that was expected.

Glad it went well and all looks good. I didn't ask for sedation because my surgeon is an hour away and I just wanted to get there and home and not have to bother anyone for a ride. I have a high pain tolerance (gave birth twice with no drugs ) so I didn't mind. It wasn't fun but at least it was quick!

Yeah I'm pretty sure if men had to give birth that would be the cause of the human demise ha ha. Most of us men are really big wusses when it comes to pain. Giving birth twice without any pain meds WOW you are a tough cookie. Thank God we get the easy part.
