Hi. I've been a member for many years, but do not post too often. I have had pouchitis for the last year, but really bad for the last 5 months. Tried treating without being scoped (well, I was scoped in January 2012, but then it cleared up for awhile) up until a few weeks ago when NOTHING was helping. Also having problems passing stool. The scope showed a "narrowing of the reservoir". (beside the pouchitis) When I saw the surgeon on Friday to schedule the dilation, she did an exam in the office and wasn't even able to get the tip of her finger "in there". No wonder I have been bearing down and having issues. My question is this - Am I going to feel fine after the dilation? I know what I will feel like from the Anesthesia, I'm talking about is there any kind of recovery? Or is it just back to normal? (what ever normal is these days!)
For those who are having these type of issues, I am posting the medical terms from which I was told. Any input would be appreciated as the dilation is this Thursday, March 7th. Thank you in advance.
(who would have thought that there are actually medical terms for what I have been experiencing!)
Tenesmus:
Tenesmus is the feeling that you need to pass stools, even though your bowels are already empty. It may involve straining, pain, and cramping.
Considerations
Tenesmus usually occurs with inflammatory diseases of the bowels. These diseases may be caused by an infection or other conditions.
It can also occur with diseases that affect the normal movements of the intestines. Such diseases are called motility disorders.
Persons with tenesmus may push very hard (strain) to try to empty their bowels, but they pass little stool.
Stenosis:
Definition: Stenosis is a narrowing of any tubular structure in the body, including blood vessels, heart valves, vertebral canal and the GI tract. Blood vessel narrowing is one of the more common usages of this term.
