Has anyone experienced pain, a severe cramping feeling, in the stomach when eating solid foods?  I can eat yogurts, cottage cheese, milk, coffee, etc. and I don't feel any pain. If I eat anything solid, that's when it hurts. It's not in my pouch, it feels like when food is passing from the stomach, if that makes any sense.  It passes, but it's really painful for a bit. Thanks in advance and I hope everyone here is well!!!

Hi Nora, not really tbh.  What sort of 'solid foods' do you experience this with?  I tend to eat soft foods because I woof my food down quicker than a hungry Labrador.  But I'd imagine not chewing properly could cause this.

Do you get the pain eating something like pasta in a cream sauce or an omelette?  If so how about lasagna (same but with addition of meat and tomatoes).  Basically just look for patterns with food.

Is it an acid pain, gassy pain or cramping pain?  Does taking Rennie or pepto bismol help?   Does the volume of pain affect the erm... Ferocity of the out put

How long after eating do you get the pain?  The stomach should empty triggering the colic reflex after about 15- 20 mins the reflex then pushed the food along the colon (in most people) towards the exit.  Is the pain before or after the stomach empties

Internal organs don't tend to have pain receptors, and the digestive system is one, you can only really feel visceral pain (a stretching pain like gas).  Eating something that would cause skin pain (somatic pain) is usually felt as sickness, or as both sickness and bloat pain.

Do you find it much worse of you eat fatty foods?  I guess gall stones would be possible? But that would kick off much worse after a tub of Ice and not so much after a slice of bread?

Or is it acidic foods like the tomatoes, or sweet foods?, Food with fibre?

You could try drinking a lot of fluids (water) quickly to capacity test your stomach (the food you list as safe seem to be eaten in shall volumes).

Hopefully that will give you some understanding of what is causing the issue, if you can work and and resolve the issue soon though, you should really go and see a doctor, but having an understanding of what causes the pain will help the doc with his or her assessment

First, I have no colon, only a j pouch.  It's all food that must be chewed that's causing issues, soft or otherwise.  I do not consume eggs, or meat.  Liquids are fine. It's within 10 minutes of eating.  It's only food that has to be chewed that is causing this, it's also not gas or bloating.  My pouch is also not full and not the issue.  I will see my dr but I was curious if anyone else had had this issue.

Think you would be hard pushed to find someone with a colon here tbh.  I assumed you had a jpouch (like me) if your posting on a jpouch forum.  Above I listed as few things you can try to narrow the problem down.  It should give you a better idea of what is causing the problem. Up to you if you try them or not.

Your saying it's literally everything you eat and nothing that you drink, so eating a carrot would do it? But not blending a carrot and drinking it?  That's is odd and certainly should get checked..

Still reckon gall stones or an obstruction of some sort of a good shout, but really can't tell without more info.

Maybe someone else will be along who has experienced this, but afaik it's not a common issue with pouches

Wishing you well

If it's liquid or liquidy like yogurt, regardless of what's in it, no pain. If it's a food that has to be chewed, even if it's just one chew and swallow, then it's an issue.  I also have multiple hernias, again.  Not sure if those may be causing problems!!  Just wondered if anyone had this happen. I've had the pouch for 2 years now.

Thanks for the info you guys!  I'll contact my Gastro.
