Hi everyone,

I am back again with yet another question. I've had SIBO-like symptoms for the past few months and my pouch was recently scoped. I'm still awaiting the biopsy results but my GI said that he saw no obvious inflammation. He put me on Cipro for two weeks.

On the Cipro I felt amazing! My stools were very thick, I had minimal gas, and the strong odour was gone. As I've read from others, I pretty much felt like I had a colon again.

I finished the antibiotics on Monday and unfortunately I've had horrible diarrhea since Wednesday. I'm in the bathroom every two hours at least and the consistency is straight liquid. I've been taking probiotics and I'm on a very bland diet.

I have a follow-up scheduled with my gastroenterologist in 4 weeks. Is there a chance this can resolve on its own, or at what point do I need to seek immediate medical attention?

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It is unlikely, but you should have a stool culture to rule out c diff. I woukd alert your Gi of your symptoms. I personally have never experienced diarrhea while on cipro or after stopping it. Your pouch could be adjusting to its pre cipro state also but I would still alert your GI. It could be possible that you had pouchitis which has reappeared after stopping the cipro but your biopsies should confirm that if so.
