I have had my pouch since 2011. I am so inconsistent with my bowel movements, obstructions, diarrhea and oftentimes lately, thick stool. Well my last exam showed a defect in the wall of the small bowel. I have occasional blood and pain. I am anxiously awaiting on a pouchoscopy. As most of you know things don’t happen fast enough when you have something looming!
I am really nervous. Has anyone gone through this before? If so, any ideas? Should I be worried?

A pouchoscopy might not show what’s going on with the wall of your small bowel, depending on where along the small bowel the issue is. You wrote that this defect showed up in your last exam, but I’m not sure how it was detected. Did you have a barium x-ray or some other imaging study?
Thank you for your response. I’m sorry, yes the dr will use endoscope and do pouchoscopy at same time. It was detected with CT + contrast.

I am glad that they discovered it now.
I had a defect that they missed during takedown. 10 days later I needed. emergency surgery to save my life.
Whatever this is, hopefully you will be able to deal with it on a non-emergency basis.

Am wondering if the "defect" could be a ballooning or widening of the small intestine as a result of a stricture at the entry of the pouch which might cause effluent to back up. -- Rose
“Defect” is a very general term, so it’s hard to interpret out of context. The full report probably clarifies this. It often means a leak, as New577 seems to have likely had, but that’s much less common in a mature pouch or in the middle of the gut.
